Kaweah River Webcam

The Kaweah River Webcam went online for the 2002 boating season on 5-12-02 and went wireless from the right bank on 5-26-02 through 7-10-02.

The Kaweah River Webcam was placed 100 yards below The Chute looking either upstream at The Chute with Moro Rock and Alta Peak in the background or downstream to Headwall and Hwy 198. This is above the commercial putin so not many rafts will be seen other than KWA since they put in above Pumpkin Hollow Bridge. The camera is online between 7:00AM and 8:00PM PDT daily during the boating season. Images are automatically uploaded every hour on the hour. The last 30 images are saved. There will be an 10 hour gap somewhere in the list during nightime. The first image each day may appear as late as 10AM due to the need to transport a fully charged battery to the remote camera site each morning.

The webcam is a Supercircuits PC67XS-2 microvideo color video camera with 512x492 pixel 1/3 inch CCD and 5.6mm 60 degree lens operating with 1.5 lux min illumination. NTSC video output is fed to a Nutex Video Express CV-97 2.4 GHz video tranmitter/receiver (Supercircuits MVL6) with 700 foot range. The camera is mounted in a custom machined ABS weatherproof housing with 1/4-20 threaded mounting. Power is 12VDC@225mA to camera and transmitter, and 12VDC to the receiver. Total cost for the system was under $200.

The webcam operates on a wireless link from the camera and transmitter on the right bank to the receiver and PC on the left side of the river, a distance of about 400 feet. A 12V battery system (10 F cell Ni-Cd, 5.5AH) is used to operate the camera and transmitter.
