mailing lists, newsgroups, the Well, Cafe Utne, Salon's ?TableTalk, wikis, many BBSes I think, and Compuserve's forums are all AsynchronousConferencingSystem(s). We call them asynchronous because the reader of a message/article/post/response/comment can conveniently read well after the writer has logged out. Chat rooms, MUDs, and IRC channels aren't async.
