When you sit down to write to an audience that you've never kissed and wonder if anyone will ever read anything you've ever written, one should take the time to think over and plot out what one will write. A first draft is usually awful and needs to be fixed up later.
On the other hand a first draft normally represents fairly closely what it is you want to say... perhaps we need a personal Wiki for first drafts, and a public Wiki for the edits that make them palatable??
