I've been in Huntsville, AL now for about 15 years. I moved here about 6 months after finishing up my master's. I've had my ups and downs here, working for 5 different employers on various efforts in space and defense related contracts. Right now I'm working on a project that will be taken up on the Shuttle in December and fly on the Mir Space Station. It's called the Optical Properties Monitor. It will take a number of optical measurements and assess how materials degrade over the long haul while they are in space. Up until now, there was no portable equipment to make full assessments in space. You had to bring materials back down to earth first in order to measure them, and that would tend to skew the results. I've been involved in a lot of technical documentation, verification sequences, and some cost factors.

I belong to the Huntsville Ham Club, K4BFT. If you've worked field day since Purdue days, chances are good that you've talked to the club at one time or another.
