Biologically Inspired Computing

Here we identify specific computer systems that borrow from concepts from biology. We also point out especially pertinent papers or websites that explore similar issues.

  • StephanieForrest -- Dr. Forrest has long been involved with the Santa Fe Institute. Her group at University of New Mexico has

  • Systèmes Multi-Agents Coopératifs -- A research group based at the Universite Paul Sabatier in Toulouse, France, has recently published a nice paper on "Bio-inspired Mechanisms for Artificial Self-organised Systems," Informatica 30 (2006). See http://www.google.com/ur ... gWiGEaxgvJn8R3aA for more The paper discusses three bio-inspired projects.

  • Ward's Cybords Project -- This experimenter friendly site (at http://c2.com/cybords/wi ... ?WelcomeVisitors) supports the development and distribution of biologically inspired, Bynase enabled, circuits called Cybords. Ward describes how cybords relate to the FourPrinciples (see http://c2.com/cybords/wi ... ellularComputing)

  • WikiWikiWeb -- Ward was inspired more by cultural evolution, and especially the role of common metaphor, but his result has been studied for biological properties. See StigmergyInWiki.
